PREVIOUS EDITIONS
It has been eight editions promoting the discussion of ideas, the exchange of experiences, and a more disruptive mindset in public administration. In 2022, the Week was a call to action. With the theme "It's time to create," the event adopted a hybrid format, returning to in-person activities while still incorporating online programming. In 2021, still under the transformed reality of the pandemic, just like the 2020 edition, it was held virtually, free of charge, and interactive.
Since its inception, the Week has been growing in size and structure, fostering and disseminating a culture of innovation among public agents in Brazil and worldwide. The event fulfills its fundamental role of presenting trends and possibilities for the transformation of public organizations. Drawing from examples from around the world, we discuss how public servants and civic entrepreneurs can envision and build new possible futures.
Here are the themes of previous editions:
In its 5th edition, in May 2019, the Week focused on innovation as systemic practice, able to transform the way State relates to society, by putting its acting target back again on people and their needs. With the motto “Government to the People”, the fifth edition approached topics such as user experience in the public sector, digital transformation, exponential technologies, planning of evidence-based policies, and AI in public policies. The event took place during November 4th to 7th 2019, at ISC, and it gathered roughly 2 thousand attendees, as well as more than 80 speakers. The schedule encompassed a range of activities, as workshops and the sharing of success cases, roundtable discussions, courses and others. The event was gamified and the closing lecture was present by the best-seller Yuval Harari.
In 2018, the event innovated in its place, format and program. It was held at the Serzedello Corrêa (ISC) Institute, in Brasilia, and hosted over 80 activities - such as interviews, TED-talks style presentations, workshops, roundtables, book launches, escape rooms (a place for strategy games) and exhibition of movies 360º. It also had a range of parallel events, such as the OCDE Network Regional Meeting for Open and Innovative Governments in Latina America and Caribes. Attendance positively reacted to the debates, interaction, empathy and the good atmosphere that characterized that edition. Such engagement echoed in attendance records for both online and in-person participation. There were over 5 thousand views on the live streaming, besides the nearly 1,6 thousands in-place attendees.
In 2017, the Third Innovation Week in Public Management also happened at Enap, in Brasilia, from October 16th to 19th. Its main focus was on service transformation. Nearly 600 attendees followed and engaged in debates about the trends for the Brazilian Federal Government digital transformation. 20 TED Talks-like lectures and 10 innovation workshops were presented - held by national and international specialists. For the first time, there was a live online broadcast (it was followed by over a thousand people, from everywhere in Brazil).
In 2016, the Innovation Week was held between September 19th to 22th, at the premises of the National School of Public Administration (Enap), in partnership with the International Seminar for Governance, Innovation and Development. Government leaders, and national and international prominent scholars and private-sector personalities gathered. It happened in order to promote reasoning and a propositive debate about current scenarios and long-term perspectives, in terms of development, governance and innovation - not only in Brazil but also worldwide. There were lectures, presentations by specialists and innovation arenas. There were 12 workshops, 14 lectures and 350 attendees.
In its first year, “Transforming ideas into solutions” was the main-theme of the event. Held from November 30th to December 4th 2015, at the International Convention Center of Brasilia, it had a goal to promote the culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in the Federal Public Administration. The intention was also to create an interactive and creative environment, with ideas and solutions to the development of processes and public services. The event happened alongside the International Conference and the StartupGov (a space for approaching the Brazilian Government to startup ecosystem specialists) - after all, there were nine workshops, 28 lectures and over 600 attendees.
