Madeleine Butting is a Researcher and Award-winning Author. She has been named one of the Fifty Greatest Thinkers in the World in 2021 by Prospect magazine. In her latest book, Labors of Love: The Crises of Care, Butting explores the crisis in the care economy, the result of 5 years of research in the UK and conversations with charity workers, doctors, social workers, home carers, nurses, and palliative care teams. On the main stage, Butting will explore the distinct ways of understanding and practicing "caring" and its value. We will reflect on the consequences of the pandemic on systems of care, their relationship to gender, and the need to discuss the issue in a crisis context.
